Who am I and what is this blog about?
Based in Berkeley, California, I am a development consultant and writer for small- to medium-size nonprofits. I help my clients develop systems, strategies, budgets, proposals and donor communications so that they can successfully engage supporters, better serve their communities and meet their goals. Currently, I serve West Coast nonprofits with missions that span youth development, outdoor experiential education, urban park revitalization, environmental stewardship, community health and economic empowerment.
In this blog I highlight ideas, news and resources for nonprofit and community innovation. I feature examples of nonprofits, socially-responsible businesses and individuals driven by a vision for positive change in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. I like to explore critical thinking in support of solving community challenges. In some posts I share trends, tips and best practices evolving in the social sector and report back from conferences and workshops related to philanthropy, nonprofit technology, fundraising and donor stewardship.
Blog series
Since September 2011, I have published a blog series to follow the California State Park funding crisis as lawmakers, nonprofits and community activists work to find short- and long-term funding solutions to save these important public assets. I also write articles on the state parks crisis for Bay Nature.
My next blog series will focus on helping nonprofit leaders to build sustainable organizations. Please share your questions and suggestions.
Getting outdoors
When I am not working, I like to spend as much time as possible in the outdoors, experiencing nature, wilderness and adventure with my husband and friends.
